Aspirant for the Karim II State Constituency seat in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvia Haji Dubagari, has picked up her Expression of Interest and Nomination forms under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that democracy without a vibrant opposition risks sliding into dictatorship.
Dubagari, a law graduate and entrepreneur, made the declaration in a statement addressed to constituents, where she expressed concern over what she described as years of underperformance in representation.
According to her, Karim II has suffered from neglect of critical constituency projects, weak legislative oversight, and inadequate empowerment initiatives for youths and women. She also highlighted the struggles faced by farmers, traders, students, and families, noting that their concerns have not received the urgent attention they deserve.
“When representation becomes comfortable and unchallenged, democracy begins to resemble dictatorship by default,” she said, warning that such a trend slows development and weakens the voice of the people.
The aspirant said her decision to join the PDP and formally obtain her nomination forms was driven by a desire to promote inclusive governance and introduce fresh ideas capable of addressing the constituency’s challenges.
Presenting her agenda, Dubagari pledged to focus on people-oriented legislation, transparent constituency projects, and empowerment programmes targeted at youths and women. She also promised to advocate strongly for improved security, agricultural development, education, and infrastructure.
She emphasized the need to create a safer environment for farmers to return to their fields, describing agriculture as central to the economic survival of the constituency.
“This is more than an election; it is a call to restore hope, rebuild trust, and prove that democracy can truly work for the people of Karim II,” she stated.
Dubagari urged constituents to support her ambition, stressing that her candidacy represents a collective effort to challenge stagnation and reposition the constituency for sustainable development.
The Karim II seat is expected to witness heightened political activity ahead of the next election cycle, as aspirants continue to outline their visions for the constituency.
