The aspirant for the Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), , has intensified grassroots consultations ahead of the party’s primary election with an interface meeting involving the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of Nwoninweni Comprehensive College, Zing.
The engagement, which took place at the conference hall of the institution, brought together parents, teachers and members of the school management to discuss issues affecting education and community development in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Leah Solomon said the visit was part of efforts to formally intimate the school community of her ambition to represent the people of Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
She described education as the foundation of societal growth and stressed the need for sustained investment in the sector. According to her, her background as a teacher and her contributions to the growth of the institution have continued to strengthen her passion for raising future leaders and promoting quality education.
The APC aspirant commended the management of the school, teachers and parents for their commitment to academic excellence despite prevailing economic and infrastructural challenges facing the education sector.
Leah Solomon also appealed for support and prayers from the school community as the APC prepares to conduct its primary election scheduled for Saturday.
Speaking further, she noted that she had in the past stepped aside and sacrificed her political ambition by allowing others to contest after purchasing nomination forms, adding that the time had come for constituents to support her aspiration to serve the constituency.
She assured the gathering that if elected into the House of Representatives, her focus would include improving educational opportunities, empowering women and youths, promoting human capital development and attracting basic social amenities to communities across the federal constituency.
Responding on behalf of the PTA, the Principal of Nwoninweni Comprehensive College, , pledged the support of the association and the school community towards her aspiration.
The principal also commended the free education policy introduced by the Governor of Taraba State, describing it as a major relief to parents across the state.
He, however, appealed to the state government to consider extending the policy to private and faith-based schools in order to further ease the financial burden on parents and improve access to quality education for children.
