INAUGURATION: Comrd Mary Yaje Emerges NUTASS President, Pledges Inclusive Leadership.

The newly inaugurated President of the National Union of Taraba State Students (NUTASS), Comrade Mary Nshukwi Yaje, has pledged to run an inclusive, transparent and student-focused administration aimed at advancing the welfare and unity of Taraba students.

Speaking during her acceptance speech after the inauguration ceremony, Comrade Yaje described her emergence as a collective victory for students across the state, promising to lead with integrity, accountability and selfless service.

The event attracted prominent government officials, youth leaders, student stakeholders and representatives of student bodies, including the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mike Dio Jen, Commissioner for Secondary Education, Augustina Godwin, and Commissioner for Primary Education, Fatima Habib.

Others present included the Chairman of Taraba State Youth Development Agency, Gara Nongha, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Taraba State chapter, Haruna Hapson, and Chairman of the Taraba State Scholarship Board, Bashir Yakubu.

In her address, Yaje said the mandate given to her administration was not a personal achievement but a call to serve the collective interests of students across Taraba State.

“This moment is not merely a personal achievement; it is a victory for unity, hope, and the collective aspirations of Taraba State students,” she stated.

She assured students that her administration would prioritize students’ welfare, academic excellence, empowerment and unity irrespective of tribe, religion, institution or political affiliation.

According to her, leadership demands sacrifice and responsibility rather than titles and recognition, adding that her administration would remain accessible and responsive to the needs of students.

The NUTASS president outlined key priorities of her administration to include strengthening the voice and unity of Taraba students, advocating improved welfare and academic support, creating mentorship and empowerment opportunities, promoting transparency within the union, and building strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders and government agencies.

She also called on members of her executive council and the wider student community to work collectively towards achieving peace, development and progress within the union.

Yaje further appreciated past leaders of NUTASS for laying a solid foundation for the union, promising to build on their achievements and leave the organization stronger.

Meanwhile, officials inaugurated alongside the president include Yusuf Y. Inuwa as Vice President I, Andawo Williams as Vice President II, Faisal M. Sukare as Secretary, Young P. Khanin as Assistant Secretary, and Abubakar M. Karashin as Financial Secretary.

Others are Nuaimat Dan’azumi as Treasurer, Dahphee Stephen as Woman Leader, Joel Andekin as Social Director, Usman A. Bawa as PRO I, Bobswanya Isael Dayebga as PRO II, Bunbyerga Danladi as Auditor, and Mohammad Bashir as Sports Director.

The newly inaugurated leadership is expected to pilot the affairs of the union and champion the interests of Taraba State students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week. The statement adds that the culprits were captured during a raid at a local hotel in Mayo Dassa area of Jalingo metropolis where they were hiding.  It adds that Further investigations led to the discovery that the gang's hideout was at Kona Mountain in Jalingo , where additional members of the syndicate were believed to be camped. INSECURITY:Bissaula Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Renewed Attack, Calls for Lasting Security Deployment.

A community leader in Bissaula Ward of Kurmi Local Government Area, Taraba State, Alhaji Idi Ismaila, has decried a fresh wave of violence that disrupted the fragile peace recently restored to the area. He made the remarks during a press briefing where he recounted the latest attack and appealed for urgent government intervention. According to Ismaila, the Bissaula community was thrown into panic on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., when unknown gunmen, suspected to be members of the Ndaka-Chamba militia, stormed the village and opened fire. Their primary target was said to be Baba Umaru Gambo, a former youth leader of the community and current Commander of the Taraba Marshal in Kurmi Local Government Area.
