The Resident Bishop of the Ande Emmanuel has described the Federal High Court ruling dismissing the application for stay of execution filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the GMCN as a reaffirmation of the lawful continuity and trusteeship of the church in Nigeria.
During the national and international press conference in Jalingo on Monday, Bishop Emmanuel said the judgment delivered by the strengthened confidence in the rule of law, constitutional processes and the independence of the judiciary.
The bishop stated that the ruling was not a moment for celebration against opposing parties, but rather an opportunity for healing, reconciliation and renewed commitment to the Christian mission.
He urged members and supporters of the church across the country to avoid inflammatory remarks, intimidation or retaliatory actions capable of threatening public peace and Christian unity.
According to him, members, clergy and congregations of the church endured uncertainty, emotional pain, misinformation and institutional tension throughout the legal dispute, but remained steadfast through prayers, patience and faith. He commended church leaders, legal representatives, ecumenical partners and members of the global Methodist family for their support and solidarity during the period.
Bishop Emmanuel further stressed that the focus of the church should now shift from litigation to rebuilding and strengthening ministry activities, including evangelism, discipleship, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and peacebuilding initiatives. He noted that the church must continue to serve as a beacon of hope at a time when many Nigerians are facing economic and security challenges.
Reaffirming respect for the constitutional rights of all parties involved in the legal process, the bishop encouraged those with differing convictions to pursue them peacefully and within the framework of the law.
He also called on members of the church worldwide to remain prayerful, united and focused on Christ, adding that the ultimate calling of the church is reconciliation and service to humanity.
Quoting 1 Corinthians 14:40, Bishop Emmanuel said, “Let all things be done decently and in order,” while praying for continued peace in Nigeria and guidance for the Church.
