The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has concluded its Taraba State Congress, electing a new set of executives through a consensus process, with Hon. Ambassador Charles Tiuda emerging as State Chairman.
The congress, held in Jalingo, drew party delegates and stakeholders from across the state, and was widely described by observers as orderly and reflective of growing internal cohesion within the party.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Taraba State NDC Congress Committee, Hon. Iratsi Rimamsanati Nuhu, commended delegates for what he termed their “maturity and sense of unity,” noting that the peaceful conduct of the exercise signals a positive trajectory for the party in the state.
He urged party members to rally behind the newly elected leadership, stressing that collective support would be critical to strengthening the party’s structures ahead of future political contests.
Nuhu also charged the new executives to prioritize the party’s interest above personal ambitions, warning that internal divisions could undermine its prospects. He expressed confidence that the NDC is positioning itself as a viable political force in Taraba, with clear intentions to participate actively in the 2027 general elections.
“The NDC has come to stay,” he said. “What we have demonstrated here today is a commitment to democratic principles and internal harmony, which are essential for electoral success.”
In his inaugural address, the newly elected Chairman, Hon. Ambassador Charles Tiuda, pledged to provide purposeful leadership and work diligently to expand the party’s grassroots presence across the state.
He expressed gratitude to the congress committee for overseeing a credible process and also acknowledged the role of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for monitoring the exercise.
Tiuda called for unity among party members, emphasizing that cohesion remains the bedrock of political growth and electoral success.
“We must close ranks and move forward together,” he said. “Our strength lies in our unity, and with that, we will build a formidable platform capable of delivering on the aspirations of the people of Taraba State.”
The successful conduct of the congress is seen as a key step in the NDC’s efforts to consolidate its structure and prepare for the political dynamics leading up to the next election cycle.
Two aspirants for seats in the National Assembly were at the Congress. They are Hon. Bernard Anthony Nuki, vying for Ardo Kola, Karim Lamido and Lau Federal Constituency, and Hon. TsA-Asen Luka Agbu of the Ibi–Wukari Federal Constituency.
