A former governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has explained his decision to dump the party for the Accord Party ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Taraba State.
Nyameh, in a statement titled “Oneness and Progress,” said his exit from the PDP was informed by his desire to pursue what he described as a free, fair and credible political process without compromising his integrity and principles.
The politician noted that his experience during the 2022 PDP gubernatorial primary election influenced his decision to seek a new political platform to actualise his “New Taraba Project” through what he called the “Taraba Therapy Agenda.”
According to him, he challenged the outcome of the 2022 PDP governorship primary from the Federal High Court in Jalingo up to the Supreme Court in Abuja, insisting that he rejected several offers of personal gain in order not to betray the trust of Tarabans.
Nyameh maintained that joining the Accord Party would provide him with a fair and inclusive platform to pursue his governorship ambition and contribute to the development of Taraba State.
He appreciated members of his team and supporters across the state who contributed financially toward the purchase of his nomination and expression of interest forms, assuring them that he would not disappoint the people if given the opportunity to lead the state.
The governorship hopeful expressed concern over what he described as worsening governance and leadership challenges confronting Taraba State, including rising debt profile, poor policies, lack of development and weak administrative management.
To address the state’s debt burden, Nyameh disclosed that he had developed a “3-R strategic model” centred on Recovery, Resource Utilisation and Renegotiation.
He said his background as a teacher, administrator, consultant, entrepreneur, businessman and politician had equipped him with the experience required to attract development and investment to Taraba State while ensuring justice and fairness for all.
Nyameh further revealed plans to officially declare his governorship ambition during a forthcoming press conference in Jalingo, where he would unveil his vision and development blueprint for the state.
He stressed that leadership should be measured by visible results rather than excuses, promising to provide purposeful governance if elected governor.
The Accord Party chieftain also urged Tarabans to join the party through its electronic membership registration platform, describing the party as one that guarantees fairness, inclusiveness and equal opportunity for members seeking elective positions.
