2027 Bid: Nyame Dumps APC for PDP, Declares 2027 Senate Bid in Taraba.

By Our Correspondent, May 5, 2026.

Former Taraba State Governor, Jolly Nyame, has formally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People's Democratic Party (PDP), citing mounting pressure from constituents in the Northern Senatorial Zone ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nyame made the declaration while receiving Emmanuel Bwacha, a PDP governorship aspirant, at his residence in Jalingo. The former governor said his decision followed what he described as a “clarion call” from his people urging him to re-enter the political arena and contest for the senatorial seat.

Describing himself as a leading figure in Yorro, one of the most populous areas in Taraba State, Nyame vowed to pursue the Senate seat under the PDP platform. “I will contest, I will contest the senatorial seat under the PDP to wipe away the tears of my people who have been marginalised over the years,” he declared.

He commended Bwacha for visiting to seek his blessing ahead of the governorship race and expressed confidence in the aspirant’s leadership capacity, pledging both personal and community support for his ambition.

Earlier, Bwacha said his visit was to consult Nyame as a political mentor and pathfinder. He praised the former governor’s record of “open-door governance” during his tenure and stressed the need for unity across Taraba State, devoid of religious and ethnic divisions.

Bwacha also appreciated the warm reception accorded him and his delegation, reiterating his commitment to fostering inclusive governance if elected.

In a related remark, former Nigerian Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Jika Hassan Ardo, described Bwacha’s political movement as a determined effort to rebuild Taraba State and reposition it for sustainable development.
