The Head of the Department of Nursing Sciences at Taraba State University, Dr. Kilo Nfor, has commended Governor Agbu Kefas for the ongoing redevelopment of the Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery, describing the intervention as a strategic investment in the state’s healthcare future.
Dr. Nfor, a former Provost of the college, gave the commendation in an interview with journalists shortly after the combined matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session held in Jalingo. He noted that the governor’s prioritization of the institution reflects a deliberate commitment to strengthening the foundation of healthcare delivery in Taraba State.
According to him, the upgrade of facilities and renewed attention to the college would not only improve training standards but also attract more students to pursue careers in nursing and midwifery, thereby addressing critical manpower gaps in the health sector.
“We appreciate the governor for this laudable initiative. It will encourage more people to seek admission into the institution and contribute meaningfully to the development of healthcare services within and beyond the state,” he said.
The university don also congratulated the newly admitted students, urging them to approach their academic journey with seriousness, discipline, and integrity. He emphasized that their admission marks the beginning of a rigorous process of professional and ethical formation required in the healthcare field.
Dr. Nfor stressed that nursing is a highly sensitive profession where diligence and honesty are non-negotiable, noting that errors in practice could have fatal consequences. He therefore advised the students to remain committed to their studies and uphold the core values of the profession.
“This is a profession that deals directly with human lives. You must be dedicated, honest, and focused in your training because any mistake can have grave consequences,” he cautioned.
The matriculation ceremony, which featured the administration of the oath of allegiance, saw the formal admission of over 600 students into various programmes of the college, marking the beginning of their academic and professional journey in the healthcare sector.
