EDUCATION: Taraba College of Nursing and Midwifery Matriculates 602 Students, Reaffirms Commitment to Excellence.

The Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo has formally matriculated a new batch of students for combined 2025/2026 academic session, marking their official entry into the nursing and midwifery profession.
The ceremony, held at the college premises in Jalingo, brought together management, government officials, professional bodies, and well-wishers to celebrate the milestone.
Speaking at the event, the Provost, Dr. Dorcas Dugule Sirgawi, described the matriculation as a significant step in the students’ journey into a profession anchored on compassion, competence, and an unwavering commitment to saving lives.
She noted that the institution has continued to distinguish itself as a centre of excellence, recording notable achievements across academic and administrative fronts. According to her, the college recently recorded a 100 percent success rate in the March 2026 Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria examinations.
Dr. Sirgawi further highlighted key reforms undertaken by the college, including the strengthening of academic standards by presenting only qualified candidates for professional examinations, the elimination of malpractice through the installation of CCTV cameras in examination halls, and the provision of free Wi-Fi to enhance teaching, learning, and research. She added that the institution has also secured access to funding support from TETFund.
Reaffirming the college’s commitment to maintaining high standards, the Provost assured students of a conducive learning environment and urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and intentional about their personal and professional development.
She also expressed appreciation to Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, for his support toward infrastructural and human capital development in the institution.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mike Dio Jen, represented by the Secretary Ministry of Tertiary Education Solomon Nathaniel, reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving the learning environment in all state-owned tertiary institutions.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Taraba State Council, Nathaniel Pius Merigi, commended the college management for its dedication to producing competent and reputable healthcare professionals.
He congratulated the newly admitted students and urged them to prioritise their studies and uphold the values of the profession, noting that they represent the future of healthcare delivery in Taraba State.
324 students are in the department of Nursing while 288 students are in the Department of Midwifery.
