As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, stakeholders from the Mumuye community in Taraba State’s Central Zone have intensified consultations, paying a solidarity visit to former governor, Jolly Nyame.
The delegation, under the aegis of the Mumuye Central Zone Political Forum, said the visit was aimed at seeking the elder statesman’s counsel and blessings, describing him as a political leader of immense influence and a symbol of unity within the ethnic nationality.
Speaking during the meeting, Chairman of the forum, Mr. Philimon Masho—who also serves as Kaigaman Gunduma—commended Nyame’s enduring contributions to the political and socio-economic development of Taraba State. He noted that the former governor’s legacy continues to inspire emerging leaders across the state.
Masho used the occasion to formally present two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirants to the elder statesman—Hon. Vishon Keto for Bali I State Constituency and Mr. Japheth Ezekiel Dadason for Gassol II State Constituency—describing them as credible and capable representatives.
According to him, both aspirants possess the leadership qualities, grassroots connection, and political experience required to effectively represent their constituencies if given the mandate in the 2027 elections.
He further stressed that the Mumuye people, particularly in Bali I and Gassol II constituencies, have made significant contributions to the political landscape of the state over the years and deserve equitable representation in the next political dispensation.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts by the state government, Masho commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his developmental strides, noting that such initiatives are gradually repositioning the state for sustainable growth.
He also called on eligible voters within the Mumuye Central Zone to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), emphasizing that active participation in the electoral process remains the most effective means of achieving political relevance and representation.
In his response, former governor Nyame, who holds the traditional title of Dabang Yorro, expressed appreciation for the visit and the confidence reposed in his leadership. He urged the Mumuye people across Taraba State to remain united and focused as the 2027 elections approach.
Nyame emphasized that political success can only be achieved through cohesion, strategic engagement, and collective resolve, advising stakeholders to avoid internal divisions that could undermine their aspirations.
The visit, observers note, reflects growing political alignment and renewed unity among Mumuye stakeholders, signaling early grassroots mobilization efforts that could shape the dynamics of the 2027 electoral contest in Taraba State.
