The Taraba State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging the arrest or abduction of one Abdulmumin Imam, describing the claims as misleading and inaccurate.
In a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, the police stated that the matter involving Imam stems from multiple petitions and complaints lodged by concerned individuals, necessitating his input in an ongoing investigation.
According to the statement, the Command had earlier extended invitations to Imam to appear before investigators to clarify issues raised in the petitions, but he reportedly failed to honour them. The police explained that officers subsequently approached him to ensure his cooperation with the investigation.
The Command emphasized that the action taken was strictly within the bounds of its constitutional mandate and was not intended to harass, intimidate, or violate Imam’s rights. It further clarified that at no point was he assaulted, subjected to inhuman treatment, or forcefully taken against his will, contrary to claims in some quarters.
“The purpose of the invitation remains to allow him provide his account regarding the matters contained in the petitions. If he is not found wanting after the necessary clarifications, he will be allowed to go accordingly,” the statement read.
Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and due process, the Command stressed that the Nigeria Police Force operates within the provisions of the law while respecting the fundamental rights of citizens.
The police also urged members of the public and media organisations to verify information with the Command before disseminating reports capable of misleading the public.
The Command reiterated its dedication to maintaining law and order in Taraba State through transparency and adherence to established procedures.
