Christians in Taraba State have been urged to remain steadfast in their faith, deepen unity, and sustain hope despite prevailing challenges, as they commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Christian Religion Matters, Sunday Patrick Muke, made the call during his Easter Sunday sermon at Saint Robert Bellarmine Chaplaincy in Jimlari, Lau Local Government Area, and in a goodwill message issued to mark the celebration.
Delivering the homily, Father Muke stressed that unwavering commitment to God remains the hallmark of true Christianity, assuring believers that those who remain faithful will not be put to shame. He described Easter as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, anchored on the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which signifies salvation, victory over death, and renewed hope for humanity.
Drawing inspiration from the Gospel of John 20:1–9, the cleric explained that the empty tomb is not a symbol of loss, but a powerful testament to the fulfillment of Christ’s promise of resurrection. He urged Christians to emulate Mary Magdalene and the disciples by believing in the risen Christ and rising above fear, doubt, and uncertainty.
Father Muke acknowledged the socio-economic difficulties facing many citizens but expressed optimism that conditions would improve, noting that perseverance in faith would ultimately yield divine rewards. He encouraged Christians to remain diligent in their service to God and commended them for their sacrifices and spiritual discipline during the Lenten season.
He further called on the people of the state to embrace unity and work collectively towards peace, love, and sustainable development, emphasizing that no situation is beyond God’s transforming power.
The Easter Mass featured special prayers for leaders, the Church, and the nation, seeking divine guidance and wisdom in governance and national affairs.
Father Muke wished Christians across Taraba State a joyful and blessed Easter celebration, reiterating the central message of the season: “Christ is Risen! Alleluia!”
