The Taraba State Police Command has recorded significant operational gains, including the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of police officers and the recovery of stolen service weapons.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, the achievements were attributed to renewed strategies introduced by the Commissioner of Police, CP Morkwap S. Dongshal, following his assumption of duty.
The statement noted that the Police Commissioner had intensified visibility policing across major towns and highways in the state as part of efforts to deter criminal activities and reassure residents of their safety.
As part of his operational approach, Dongshal conducted on-the-spot security assessments in volatile areas, particularly in Takum and Donga Local Government Areas. During his visit to Takum, he engaged with traditional rulers, community elders, youth leaders, and other stakeholders in Kofai Ahmadu and Chanchanji communities to gather firsthand intelligence and strengthen community-police collaboration.
The police chief also visited Tse Kwe Tor Damisa in Donga Local Government Area, where three police officers were recently ambushed and killed by suspected militia members, who also made away with their service rifles.
The Command disclosed that in a major breakthrough, two suspects—Suleman Abdullahi, 30, and Idris Kauri, 33, both from Akente Village in Donga LGA—have been arrested in connection with the attack. पुलिस authorities also confirmed the recovery of all three stolen rifles.
According to the statement, the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices.
In a separate operation, officers attached to the Zing Divisional Police Headquarters intercepted two individuals during a stop-and-search operation at Yonko. The suspects, identified as Torme Terzugwe, 39, from Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, and Job David, 35, from Toungo Local Government Area of Adamawa State, were reportedly traveling on an unregistered motorcycle.
A search conducted on them led to the recovery of 304 rounds of live cartridges. The police said investigations into the case are ongoing.
Reassuring residents of the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and order, the Commissioner of Police pledged sustained collaboration with community leaders and stakeholders to enhance intelligence gathering and community policing.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information, reiterating the Command’s mantra: “If you see something, say something.”
The statement emphasized that the Command remains committed to professionalism, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
The Command further appreciated the media and the public for their continued support in promoting security across Taraba State.
