INAUGURATION: Kefas Hailed for Strengthening Inclusion with Disability Commission Board Inauguration.

By Jako Keke, February 26, 2026.

The Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, has been commended for inaugurating members of the Taraba State Disability Commission Board, a move described as a bold step toward deepening inclusion and promoting the welfare of Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) in the state.

The commendation came from Hon. Mary James Gaisa, Board Member representing the Southern Zone, in a statement made available to journalists shortly after the inauguration ceremony. Gaisa, who also serves as Chairman of the Spinal Cord Injury Association (SCIAN), Taraba State Chapter, said the governor’s action demonstrates genuine commitment and compassion for the wellbeing of PLWDs.
According to her, the formal inauguration of the Board signals a new chapter in the state’s efforts to mainstream disability issues into governance and development planning. She noted that the establishment and activation of the Commission would provide a structured platform to address longstanding challenges faced by persons with disabilities, including access to education, healthcare, employment opportunities and public infrastructure.

Hon. Gaisa expressed appreciation to the various cluster associations under the PLWDs in Taraba State for turning out en masse to witness the historic event, describing their presence as a strong show of unity and solidarity within the disability community.

She assured that under the leadership of the Board Chairman, Hon. Matudi Ali, members would work collectively to ensure that all persons with disabilities across the state have a sense of belonging and equal representation. She pledged the unwavering support of the disability community to the Kefas-led administration, stressing that inclusive governance remains key to sustainable development.

The Board member further lauded Governor Kefas for what she described as his disability-friendly leadership style, adding that his administration has consistently demonstrated inclusivity in appointments and policy direction.

Observers say the inauguration of the Disability Commission Board aligns with broader national and international commitments to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and promote their full participation in society.

With the Board now in place, expectations are high that the Commission will drive policies and programmes that will improve the quality of life for PLWDs and strengthen social inclusion across Taraba State.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Reports of an unusual influx of Fulani and Hausa migrants fleeing violence in Northern Nigeria have unsettled the peace of this agrarian enclave. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
