POLITICS: Kefas’ Switch to APC Will Fast-Track Taraba’s Development — Party Scribe.

By Jako Keke, December 19,2025.
The decision of Governor Agbu Kefas to pitch his tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been described as a strategic move aimed at accelerating development in Taraba State.

The Secretary of the APC in Taraba State, Hon. Fidelis Francis, stated this in an interview with journalists, noting that the governor’s entry into the ruling party at the centre would open up greater opportunities for growth and progress in the state.

Hon. Francis expressed optimism that the decision would translate into tangible dividends of democracy for the people, particularly through improved collaboration with the Federal Government in key sectors such as infrastructure, security, education and economic development.

According to him, Taraba State now stands to benefit from a stronger and more productive working relationship with the Federal Government, which he said would enhance the delivery of development projects across the state.

The APC scribe formally welcomed Governor Kefas into the party, confirming that he has been duly issued a membership card by APC ward executives from Wukari Local Government Area. He described the governor’s defection as a boost to the party’s strength and acceptance in the state.

Hon. Francis further called on Tarabans to rally behind the Kefas-led administration, stressing that collective support remains critical to the success of government policies and programmes.

He revealed that the State Working Committee (SWC) of the APC in Taraba State is fully supportive of initiatives being championed by Governor Kefas to reposition and strengthen party activities, describing the move as a clear demonstration of commitment to the overall progress of the state.

Speaking on internal party affairs, the Secretary assured that the Taraba APC would respect and support any decision taken by the National Working Committee (NWC) concerning the party’s leadership structure in the state.

“The APC is a party with a clear hierarchy — national, zonal and state. Whatever decision the National Working Committee takes regarding the Taraba State chapter, we will support it wholeheartedly,” he said.

Hon. Francis emphasized that unity remains the key factor that will earn the party wider acceptance among the people, urging citizens to put aside political differences and support the governor to move Taraba forward.

He also cautioned politicians against acts of sabotage, reminding them that leadership is divinely ordained and should be supported in the interest of development.

“Power comes from God. Politicians should not see themselves as enemies of the present administration. Instead, they should contribute ideas and initiatives that will bring positive change to Taraba State,” he said.

Condemning the politics of bitterness and exclusion, the APC Secretary added, “This attitude of ‘if I am not there, nobody should be there’ does not please God. For now, Governor Agbu Kefas is the Governor of Taraba State. The best thing right-thinking citizens can do is to rally around him, support him, and ensure he succeeds for the good of the state.”

He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to unity, stability and development, assuring residents that the party remains focused on delivering good governance to the people of Taraba State.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Reports of an unusual influx of Fulani and Hausa migrants fleeing violence in Northern Nigeria have unsettled the peace of this agrarian enclave. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
