"Enough Is Enough”: NLC Takes to the Streets in Taraba, Demands Urgent Action on Insecurity.

By Jako, December 17, 2025.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Taraba State Council, on Monday joined its counterparts across the country in a nationwide protest to demand improved security and protection of lives and property from the government.

Members of the union converged at the NLC Secretariat in Jalingo, where the Chairman of the NLC in Taraba State, Comrade Jediel Peter, described the worsening state of insecurity in the country as alarming and unacceptable.

Comrade Peter, who recounted his own experience of being kidnapped twice in previous years, said Nigerians are no longer safe in their own country. He called on the government to take decisive steps against both state and non-state actors fueling insecurity, stressing that restoring safety is critical to preserving the nation’s dignity.

He noted that the persistent wave of kidnappings, banditry and other criminal activities has continued to instill fear among citizens, undermining confidence in governance and the rule of law.

Also speaking, the State Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Buba Wadumayi Adams, said the protest was aimed at holding governments at all levels accountable over the rising incidents of insecurity nationwide.

Comrade Wadumayi lamented that despite repeated promises, concrete action has remained elusive, insisting that the time for mere lip service is over. According to him, the growing insecurity has made schools unsafe for students across the country, a development he described as unfortunate and deeply troubling.

He added that beyond security, the NLC is also demanding fundamental reforms in governance to address the socio-economic injustices that continue to fuel crime and instability in the country.

The union leaders urged the government to act swiftly and decisively to restore public confidence and guarantee the safety of all Nigerians.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
