Wurkum Chiefdom Commends 6 Brigade for Restoring Peace in Karim Lamido.

By Jako, November 21, 2025

The leadership of the Wurkum Chiefdom has applauded the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), for its decisive role in restoring peace and stability in communities affected by recent communal tensions in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

A delegation led by Mr. Iliya Idris, representative of the Chief of Wurkum, paid a courtesy visit to the Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo on Thursday to convey the Chiefdom’s appreciation to the Brigade Commander, officers, and troops. The visit, according to Idris, was prompted by the Army’s “timely and professionally executed intervention” in the crisis involving the Shomo and Wurkum tribes.

Idris noted that the swift deployment of troops to volatile areas, especially Usmanu Village, prevented the conflict from escalating into widespread violence. He commended the military for its impartiality, continuous monitoring, and enforcement of law and order, which he said had helped restore public confidence in government institutions.

“The efforts of the Nigerian Army ensured that people returned to their homes and resumed their normal activities without fear of attack or intimidation,” Idris said. He added that the Wurkum people remained committed to working closely with security agencies to sustain the peace and promote tolerance and unity among residents.

The delegation also used the occasion to express condolences over the recent death of Brigadier General M. Uba, describing his passing as a significant loss to the country and communities he served with “dedication and sacrifice.” They prayed for the repose of his soul and encouraged the Army to uphold the values he represented.

Responding, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, expressed gratitude for the delegation’s visit and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to defending all communities without bias. He attributed the success in stabilizing the region to effective collaboration among security agencies, the state government, traditional leaders, and community members who continue to provide critical support.

General Uwa urged residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with authorities, and embrace peaceful mechanisms for resolving disputes. He assured the Chiefdom that troops would continue to operate with professionalism, fairness, and respect for human rights in the pursuit of lasting peace across Taraba State.

The visit reaffirmed the growing cooperation between the military and local communities in efforts to maintain stability and promote harmonious coexistence in the region.

Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
