Taraba Police Debunks Claims of Officer’s Alleged Involvement in Karim Lamido Incident.

By Jako Keke, November 30,2025.

The Taraba State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that one of its officers was apprehended while collaborating with criminal elements during an operation in Usmanu, Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, the Command described the circulating claims as misinformation aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the statement, the officer at the centre of the controversy was at his legitimate duty post at the Usmanu Outstation and was fully dressed in uniform at the time of the incident. The Command emphasized that he was performing routine surveillance duties in response to unrest in the area when security forces arrived.

“At no point was the officer involved in any unlawful activity or association with militia groups or armed elements,” the statement clarified. “He was neither found in possession of prohibited weapons nor implicated in any form of misconduct.”

Preliminary investigations, the Command added, confirmed that the officer remained at his post when others fled for safety and cooperated fully with the responding military team. No evidence, the police stressed, links him to any wrongdoing, though an internal review is ongoing to establish comprehensive details.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimeyin, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and accountability, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. She warned against attempts to discredit dedicated officers through “baseless allegations,” saying legal action may be taken against those spreading false information capable of undermining public trust.

The Command urged residents to rely on verified information from official channels and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

“The Taraba State Police Command remains steadfast in its duty to protect lives and property while ensuring justice and safety for all,” the statement added.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
