POLITICS:APC Nullifies Suspension of Former Taraba Speaker Abel Peter Diah.

By Jako,November 29,2025.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has voided the suspension earlier announced against former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Abel Peter Diah, declaring the action unconstitutional and therefore invalid.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Jalingo, APC State Public Relations Officer, Hon. Aaron Artimas, said the party’s leadership found that the suspension, announced on 21 November 2025, did not follow due process as stipulated in the APC constitution.

According to him, no constitutional guidelines or disciplinary procedures were observed before the action was taken at the ward level.

“The purported suspension of Hon. Abel Peter Diah is hereby declared null, void and of no effect, having failed to comply with constitutional requirements,” Artimas said.

He added that all rights, privileges, responsibilities and recognitions due to the former Speaker as a bona fide member of the APC have been fully restored.

The party also cautioned local executives involved in the “unauthorized action” to strictly adhere to constitutional provisions in future disciplinary matters to avoid internal crises and misrepresentation. Artimas disclosed that the resolution nullifying the suspension would be forwarded to both the local government and state secretariats for proper documentation and enforcement.

The State Working Committee (SWC), he said, further urged ward and local government executives across the state to maintain peace and harmony, commending the Sardauna Local Government leadership for its proactive efforts in managing internal disputes.

The announcement comes amid lingering controversy over an earlier suspension issued by APC executives in Warwar Ward, Sardauna Local Government Area, who had reaffirmed disciplinary action against Hon. Diah for alleged persistent acts of misconduct and insubordination.

At a separate briefing in Jalingo, the ward secretary, Mbah Sule Ibrahim, claimed the decision was based on “several verified reports and complaints,” alleging that Diah’s conduct had undermined recognised party structures since his defection from the PDP to the APC in 2023.

He accused the lawmaker of disregarding ward leadership, forming parallel executives not recognised by the party, and allegedly boasting that he would dissolve existing APC structures in Sardauna if Governor Agbu Kefas were to defect to the party—a remark described as divisive and misleading.

The ward EXCO maintained that Diah’s actions violated Article 21 of the APC Constitution (as amended in 2022), amounting to gross misconduct.

Acting Warwar Ward Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Hamman Adama, insisted the decision reflected the collective position of all ward executives. “What we have done represents the unified stance of the Warwar APC Ward EXCO, and we stand by it,” he said.

The ward youth leader, Kila Hassan Bakari, also alleged that the former Speaker had not engaged with the ward leadership since his election in 2023, adding that the legitimacy of his membership card was unclear to them. “The origin of his membership card is unknown to us. He has never visited our office,” he claimed.

Copies of the suspension letter, the ward officials said, were forwarded to the zonal chairman and other relevant party stakeholders before the state leadership intervened.

With the state chapter now nullifying the suspension, party members are awaiting further directives aimed at restoring unity and preventing future internal disagreements.

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing.
