The Taraba State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has re-elected Comrade Nathan Solomon as its Chairman for a second term.
Solomon was returned unopposed at the end of the Quadrennial Delegate Conference held in Gembu, headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Area.
Also elected were Timothy Juyoh as Vice Chairman I, Roland Danjuma as Vice Chairman II, Blessing Joseph Machoko as Deputy Chairman, and Abena Kataps as Treasurer.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Solomon expressed gratitude to the delegates for renewing their confidence in his leadership, assuring them of a “new dawn” for teachers across the state. He reaffirmed his commitment to an open-door administration, describing the conference as an opportunity for reflection, dialogue, and renewed dedication to the union’s core ideals.
He noted that hosting the event in Gembu was a tribute to the late former chairman, Comrade Jonah Kataps, whom he praised for his unwavering passion for the growth of the NUT.
Highlighting the progress made during his first tenure, Solomon listed the clearance of secretariat staff salary arrears from 2021 to date and the construction of a recreation centre in Wukari as major achievements.
The chairman appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to intervene in settling the four months of unpaid salaries inherited from the previous administration and to approve the promotion of teachers to Grade Level 17. He also urged the government to appoint qualified teachers as permanent secretaries in the state.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Area, Umar Mohammed, commended Governor Kefas for his steady support to the education sector, as representatives of labour unions and government agencies also pledged continued collaboration with the NUT.
