By Jako.

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), on Wednesday held a high-level security meeting with key stakeholders in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State as part of renewed efforts to address rising insecurity and communal tensions in the area.

The meeting, held at the Palace of the Emir of Ibi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Salihu Danbauro, began at about 2:00 p.m. and drew together community leaders, government officials and security representatives.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army,Lieutenant Umar Muhammad disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists.

Top on the agenda were concerns over the infiltration of criminals from neighbouring states, farmland disputes, illegal harvesting of crops, and unresolved chieftaincy disagreements in Dampar, Tapga, Sarkin Kudu and Gidan Kiye communities. These issues, authorities say, have contributed to persistent tensions, loss of lives and destruction of property.

The Chairman of Ibi LGA, Mr. Emmanuel Ubandoma, district heads, local chiefs, and personnel from various security agencies were also present.

Addressing the gathering, the Brigade Commander called on all stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to peaceful coexistence. He condemned reports of individuals preventing farmers from harvesting their crops, describing such actions as provocative and capable of triggering violent clashes. He warned that security agencies would henceforth take firm action against anyone involved in acts capable of breaching the peace.

He also reminded traditional rulers and community heads of their responsibility to promote stability within their domains, stressing that security operatives would not hesitate to act decisively against those fueling crises.

After extensive deliberations, all parties agreed to collaborate more closely to maintain peace across the area. The meeting ended peacefully at about 4:00 p.m.

The session was convened as part of ongoing efforts by 6 Brigade to curb insecurity and restore lasting peace across Taraba State.
