The 44th Session of the Southern Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Nigeria Episcopal Area, has commenced in Jalingo with a renewed call for unity, revival, and collective action towards addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
The week-long conference, holding from 26th to 30th November 2025, is themed “Behold, I Am Doing a New Thing.” It has drawn delegates from across the country for spiritual reflection, renewal, and deliberations on issues affecting the church and the nation.
Declaring the conference open, the Resident Bishop of the Nigeria Episcopal Area and the District of Senegal and Cameroon, Bishop Ande Emmanuel, urged governments at all levels to galvanize efforts toward ending the persistent insecurity confronting communities nationwide.
Bishop Emmanuel noted that despite the harsh socio-economic environment and security concerns, the United Methodist Church in Nigeria continues to experience revival and steady growth.
He commended the Federal Government for its ongoing efforts to improve the living conditions of citizens but stressed the need for more sustained commitment to ensuring safety and prosperity across the country.
In his sermon, the guest speaker reflected on the conference theme, emphasizing that God never forgets His people, especially in times of hardship or when they face oppression from individuals or government systems.
He encouraged believers to remain steadfast, hopeful, and prayerful amid national challenges.
Participants at the conference described the gathering as an important platform for spiritual retreat, fellowship, and renewal of faith.
The five-day event is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, 30th November 2025.
