The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has declared open the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) 2025 Batch B, Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Okada, Ovia North-East Local Government Area.
Represented by the Functioning Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Aiyegbeni Balogun, the governor described Edo as a land of rich culture, history, and opportunities. He assured corps members of his administration’s commitment to their welfare, safety, and security.
Okpebholo urged the corps members to approach their service year with innovation, adaptability, and excellence, stressing that the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme was designed to equip them with skills to thrive in today’s global economy.
“We believe that you, as young Nigerians with enthusiasm, creativity, and eagerness to learn, possess qualities that can leave an indelible mark on Edo State,” he said. “The NYSC has a mission to unite our nation, foster development, and empower young people. I urge you to cooperate fully with the NYSC management during and after the orientation programme.”
He encouraged the corps members to embrace the experience with open minds, collaborate with one another, respect host communities, and commit to the ideals of the NYSC scheme to strengthen Edo and Nigeria as a whole.
Earlier, NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, represented by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Ben-Ushie Frances Ifeoma, disclosed that 1,086 corps members—465 males and 621 females—had been registered for the orientation exercise.
Congratulating the corps members, Nafiu described their enlistment as the beginning of a new chapter that would shape their personal and professional growth. He emphasized discipline as key to achieving the scheme’s objectives and urged corps members to embrace self-discipline and take full advantage of available opportunities.
The NYSC boss also commended Edo State for its support, particularly the provision of buses to convey corps members to their local government areas after camp. He highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the quarterly Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), which provides free medical outreach in underserved communities, and the SAED programme, which continues to empower youths and women across the state.
The Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa, represented by Hon. Vestee Otumaye Eboreime, administered the Oath of Allegiance to the corps members, who pledged to serve the nation with loyalty and dedication.
