Peace Advocate Urges Lawmaker to Sponsor Bill for Creation of Chiefdoms in Ardo Kola LGA.

By Jako,July 22, 2025

A call has been made to the Member representing Ardo Kola Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Happy Shonruba, to sponsor a motion for the creation of three chiefdoms within Ardo Kola Local Government Area.

The appeal was made in an open letter addressed to the lawmaker by Comrade Keke Moses, a peace journalist and advocate for good governance in Taraba State. In the letter, Moses urged Hon. Shonruba to take legislative steps towards the establishment of Kola Chiefdom (to be led by a Mumuye traditional ruler), Bakin Dutse Chiefdom (for a Kona ruler), and Ardo Chiefdom (for a Fulani ruler).

Comrade Moses described the absence of any formally recognized First Class or Third Class Chief in Ardo Kola as a long-standing marginalization of the area’s traditional institutions, stressing that the creation of chiefdoms would strengthen local governance, foster peace, and uphold the cultural identities of the area’s diverse ethnic groups.

> “Ardo Kola remains the only Local Government Area in Taraba State without a recognized traditional ruler. This historical imbalance has weakened grassroots governance and hindered conflict resolution efforts,” the letter noted.

He added that the move would reflect positively on Hon. Shonruba’s legislative record and demonstrate his commitment to inclusive leadership, equity, and the promotion of peace among the Mumuye, Kona, and Fulani communities.

The peace advocate emphasized that the time is ripe for the lawmaker to act, especially as traditional institutions continue to play critical roles in maintaining order and fostering development across the state.

The letter has since stirred conversations among community leaders and stakeholders in Ardo Kola, many of whom are hopeful that the proposal will receive legislative attention.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Reports of an unusual influx of Fulani and Hausa migrants fleeing violence in Northern Nigeria have unsettled the peace of this agrarian enclave. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
