Mumuye Youths Defend Lau Council Chairman Over Land Allocation to NSCDC, Warn Against “Political Sentiment”

By Jako, July 24, 2025.

The Mumuye Cultural Development Association Youth Wing (MCDAYW) has thrown its weight behind the Executive Chairman of Lau Local Government Area, Hon. Nigeria Silama Jatau, amid growing controversy surrounding the allocation of land near Lau Central Primary School to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

In a strongly worded statement signed by its National President, Ezekiel Augustine Hammangabdo, the association condemned what it described as “reckless sentiment and blind political fight” orchestrated by the group WINLAU, which recently accused the chairman of unauthorized land allocation.

Citing the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), particularly the Fourth Schedule, Section 1, the youth group emphasized that local governments are legally empowered to manage and allocate land resources for public interest, particularly in sectors like education, security, and community development.

“As the Chief Executive Officer of the Local Government, Hon. Nigeria S. Jatau acted within his legal and administrative jurisdiction by allocating a portion of land to the NSCDC,” the statement read. “This decision is not only lawful but visionary, coming at a time when insecurity remains a major challenge across the country.”

Describing the action as a “proactive step toward protecting lives and property,” the MCDAYW urged members of the public not to allow politically motivated narratives to distort facts or threaten peace in the area.
The group issued a stern warning to WINLAU and any other parties spreading “misinformation and defamatory statements” against the chairman, threatening legal action if retractions are not made immediately.

“To allege land was allocated without due process or historical consultation is not activism—it is reckless,” the statement added. “No group will be allowed to drag our community into chaos in the name of activism. Our peace and development must not be the collateral of politics.”

The Mumuye Youths expressed unwavering support for Hon. Jatau, applauding his respect for due process, his commitment to the rule of law, and his focus on infrastructural and security development in Lau.
“We stand with a leader who puts people first,” Hammangabdo concluded. “And we will not sit by while his name is smeared for doing the right thing.”
The statement comes as tension builds around the disputed land, with observers calling for calm and constructive engagement between all stakeholders to avoid further escalation.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Reports of an unusual influx of Fulani and Hausa migrants fleeing violence in Northern Nigeria have unsettled the peace of this agrarian enclave. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
