Taraba Government Issues Operating Certificates to Certified Waste Managers in Jalingo.

By Jako,June 27, 2025

In a  step towards improving environmental sanitation and public health, the Taraba State Ministry of Waste Management and Resource Innovations has held a strategic meeting with certified private waste managers operating within Jalingo, the state capital.

The meeting, convened by the Hon. Commissioner of the Ministry, Hon. Shozen Bernard, focused on strengthening collaboration between the government and private waste operators to ensure effective and hygienic waste disposal services in the metropolis.

Key outcomes of the meeting included confirmation that all certified waste managers now have access to a government-approved dumpsite located on the outskirts of the city. The Ministry emphasized that this move will enhance the efficiency of total waste evacuation efforts across Jalingo.

Hon. Bernard called on institutions—including banks, hotels, restaurants, clinics, and other service providers—to engage only with certified waste management firms. He warned against patronizing unauthorized waste handlers, citing potential health risks and environmental violations.

The Ministry currently recognizes the following companies as duly certified waste managers in Jalingo:

  • H&H Waste Manager
  • GEMS
  • I&J Waste Manager
  • Starlight Waste Management
  • Ruby Household Cleaning and Waste Management Services
  • Tosh Waste Management Services

“All waste managers must register with the Ministry and obtain an operational permit before engaging in any activity,” said the Commissioner. He congratulated the firms that had completed their registrations and met the ministry’s regulatory standards.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Filibus Daniel Adamu, assured that the activities of all certified operators will be closely monitored to ensure strict compliance with waste management regulations.

Certificates of operation were formally issued to the certified companies at the conclusion of the meeting.

Hon. Bernard reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to building strong partnerships with stakeholders in the waste sector, aligning with the vision of Governor Agbu Kefas to make Taraba cleaner, healthier, and more livable for its residents.

“This partnership marks a new era of efficient waste management practices and environmental stewardship in Taraba State,” he stated.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Reports of an unusual influx of Fulani and Hausa migrants fleeing violence in Northern Nigeria have unsettled the peace of this agrarian enclave. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
