Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta has emphasized the importance of unity among the Bwatiye people, urging sons and daughters to uphold a legacy of strength and exemplary lifestyle for future generations.
This was part of message delivered on Thursday, May 29, 2025, during the grand opening of "Rigata," Cultural Festival celebrating Bwatiye heritage, held along the shores of the River Benue in Yola.
The festival brought together Bwatiye sons, daughters, and distinguished guests for a vibrant display of tradition and culture, showcasing the community's rich cultural heritage through interesting water competitions, traditional dances, and displays of bravery.
Deputy Governor Farauta described the celebration as a tribute to the warriors, cultural resilience, and the enduring identity of the Bwatiye community.
She emphasized that the Rigata 2025 festival is an unforgettable mark of cultural pride and unity, inspiring the Bwatiye people to preserve their heritage while forging a brighter future for generations to come.
She praised the contributions of Bwatiye sons and daughters to national development and urged them to unite against divisive tendencies, stressing that unity is vital for progress. The Deputy Governor also encouraged the younger generation to inherit a legacy of strength, integrity, and rich cultural heritage.
Highlights of the festival included thrilling water-based events such as hippopotamus races, boat races, and feats of catching fish with bare hands, culminating in underwater endurance contests. These activities showcased the bravery and resilience that define the Bwatiye people.
