CRIME: NSCDSC Taraba State Command has paraded one Mustapha Aminu for vandalising a power cable in Jalingo.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Taraba State Command has paraded one Mustapha Aminu (24) in connection with the vandalization of power cable belonging to the State Ministry of Energy and Economic Development.

The arrest came at the heels of intensified patrols around critical national assets and infrastructures as ordered by the State Commandant Adamu Salihu.

A statement signed by the Command's Public Relations Officer CPRO SC Iliya Samaila says Mustapha was arrested by the NSCDC Anti-Vandal team on routine patrol on the 27th August 2024 at Jauro Gana, close the CBN Jalingo.

It adds that Investigations revealed that he stole the armoured cable which was used in the installation of street light on the newly constructed road from Kpanti-Napu to Jauro Yinu on Saturday 24th August, 2024 and hid it in a nearby farm.

It further explains that three days later he came to pick the cable to move it to Enugu where he intended to sell it at a more exorbitant price, that was when NSCDC Anti-Vandal team, acting on a tip off arrested him.

Parading the suspects, Commandant of NSCDSC Taraba State Command Adamu Salihu decried the level of moral decadence among some youth who should have engaged themselves meaningfully in economic activities.

He urged parents to do better in training their wards so that they would not get involved in criminal activities.

The statement quoted the commandant saying"It is disheartening to see very young people involved in criminal activities. These young ones are the future of this country, we must not lose them to crime. Vandalization of public utilities is a terrible crime against the nation, all parents and community leaders must join hands together to stop the rising menace".

It could be recalled that last week the Command paraded two young men for vandalizing power cables belonging to Taraba State Broadcasting Service (TSBS) booster station Zing, the trend seem not to be abetting.

Commandant Adamu called on the general public to be more vigilant around critical national assets and infrastructures provided by the government for their use and report any suspicious persons or activities around such facilities to any security formation close to them for prompt action.

The suspect has voluntarily confessed to the crime and he has been charged to court for immediate prosecution.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
