TRAFFICKING: "We must fight against Human Trafficking ". Dr Filister Irarimam Commissioner of Social Justice and Reinterpretation Taraba State.

Taraba state government has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting against human trafficking in the state.

The commissioner for Social Justice and reintegration, Doctor Filister Irarimam Musa, reiterated this in an awareness campaign at the Jalingo Main Motor Park, in commemoration of this world against Trafficking in Persons.
The Commissioner in her address, emphasized that trafficking in persons is a gross violation of human rights that dehumanizes the victims and destroys their future and that of society.

The Commissioner added that the campaign is a global fight against the trafficking of persons, also pledging the unwavering determination of the Agbu Kefas-led administration in combating the menace, through law enforcement, awareness creation and victim-centred intervention.

Represented, by the Commissioner Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs Mary Sinjen, underscored the commitment of the ministry to bringing an end to the evil practice of trafficking persons.

 She stated it tragic that Taraba State is among the endemic States in Nigeria where the menace is exploited.

Adding his voice, the Chairman, of the Nigerian Barr. Association, Jalingo Branch, Barr. Milkman Martin Karel warned of the severe consequences of trafficking of human trafficking and assured that perpetrators of such crime will be brought to book, as it is a crime to humanity punishable under law.

The Coordinator of NorthEast, Network Against Child Trafficking Abuse and Labour, NACTAL, Mrs Sarah David Ibi, stresses that children are the most vulnerable group to fall victim to such menace, hence the need for parents to be vigilant and protect their children from individuals who disguise as destiny helpers.

Also speaking, the Chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comr.Matthew Eliud Jen pledged that the media will not rest on its oars in reporting any form of trafficking within the State.

This year's event saw the combative effort of Humanitarian Organizations, Government Institutions, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Security Agencies, and all and sundry in championing the course to eradicate the menace, with the theme "leave no child behind in fighting against human trafficking".
