GENDER BASED VIOLENCE: Abolish social norms detrimental to societal growth- Nashuka to participants in Kurmi LGA.

Executive Director Safe Environment and Community Health Initiative Comr Nashuka Fidelis has advocated the abolishment of social norms that perpetuate Gender-Based Violence, GBV in Taraba State.
Nashuka Fidelis made the advocacy during a sensitization program for traditional and religious leaders on the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls in Nigeria at Baissa, Kurmi Local government area.

The Resource person explained that due to respect people accord social norms in the society and failure to change them it has continued to encourage Gender Based Violence GBV the trend he described as detrimental to the progress of the State.
Nashuka Fidelis who doubled as the President Association of NGOs and Coalition of CSOS in Taraba State said there is need for campaign and awareness for the people particularly those that are at the remote villages to let go norms that are not beneficial to the society.
Nashuka revealed that due to the increasing cases of violation of human rights,the Taraba State Government has enacted the Violence Against Person Prohibition VAPP Law, twenty twenty two to punish the violators.
He stated that the law says violators of rape goes for life imprisonment, having a canal knowledge of a minor is death sentence.
Other penalties are concealing the offence of rape attracts fourteen years imprisonment or a fine of two hundred thousand naira,Gang raping attract a minimum of twenty one years imprisonment without an option of fine and attempted rape attracts ten years imprisonment.

He also mentioned that the law says, sexual intercourse against the order of nature attract fourteen years imprisonment without an option of fine,gross indecency attract fourteen years imprisonment and digital harassment attract three years imprisonment without an option of fine.
Nashuka however urged Tarabans to support Government's effort end Gender Based Violence GBV in the society.
According to him, the civil societies, traditional rulers, Religious leaders, Political office holders,the Security agencies all have critical roles to play to ensure the ugly trend is reduced to the barest minimum in Taraba State.
