Crime: NDLEA rates Taraba state high in illicit drugs consumption.

Taraba State has been rated high in consumption of illicit drugs in the country.

State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA Taraba State Command, Nanzing Daniel Sallah made the revelations while hosting State Officials of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ in his office in Jalingo.

Nanzing Daniel Sallah said the consumers of the drugs in the state fall between the age brackets of sixteen and forty six years, saying they consume hard drugs such as Cannabis Sativa AKA Marijuana,Codine, tramadol, methamphetamine AKA Ice among others.

The State Commander remarked that this ugly trends is aided by the activities of the drug traffickers who used the state as a transit in the business attributing the high rate of criminal activities in the state to drug abuse.

He said the Agency has not been resting on its oars to ensure the issue is addressed and has made several arrest as well as siezures of such hard drugs in the state.

He applauded the state government for promising to build a Rehabilitation center for the agency saying it will help in rehabilitating drug abusers and counseling.

Sallah remarked that the media is a critical stakeholder in the fight against drugs and substance abuse in the state, saying the visit of the NUJ officials to the command is timely.

The State Commander pledged the resolve of the agency to partner with the NUJ, saying it will help in publicising its activities to restore the lost glory of the state.

Earlier,the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Taraba State Council Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen said they were in his office to familiarize themselves as well as seek for partnership.

Mathew Jen said the Journalists can only report what happened as the effectiveness of their duties demands collaboration with stakeholders in different walks of life.

Comrade Jen appreciated the doggedness of the agency in trying to sanitize the state to be drug free and pledged readiness of the members of the pen profession to give them adequate publicity to achieve the desired goals.

INSECURITY: Two suspected kidnappers nabbed in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo.

Troops of six Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters ,Jalingo have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.  A statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Six Brigade Nigeria Army headquarters, Jalingo, Captain Olubodunde Oni says the Brigade act on an intelligence report and two suspects, identified as Ali Idi and Haruna Umar were apprehended early this week. The statement adds that the culprits were captured during a raid at a local hotel in Mayo Dassa area of Jalingo metropolis where they were hiding.  It adds that Further investigations led to the discovery that the gang's hideout was at Kona Mountain in Jalingo , where additional members of the syndicate were believed to be camped. RELIGION: UMC-N Bishop Ande Emmanuel decries continual tensions,calls on Gov.Agbu to waive into the matter.

The Resident Bishop United Methodist Church Nigeria  Episcopal Area, Ande Emmanuel has decried continual tensions impacting the church in Nigeria. The Bishop, in a Press briefing in Jalingo, condemned any act of violence or disrespect to the church, referencing the attack at Banyan Theological Seminary in the Bambur Community of Karim Lamido Local government area.
