Value Chain Development Program VCDP  committed to promote food security in Taraba State.

State Project Coordinator Value Chain Development Program Mr. Irimiya Musa said the programme is committed to complementing Government's efforts to  boost food production in Taraba State.

Irimiya Musa in an interview with our reporter in Jalingo said the project which focuses its activities on rice and cassava value chains has profiled over twenty thousand farmers with twelve thousand seven hundred farmers that have benefitted from its intervention. The areas of intervention included input and equipment supports, capacity building, and provision of ancillary services such as farm access road, market stores and stall, powered solar boreholes and aggregation centres, among others. 

Musa revealed that that in its eight years of operations in Taraba State said about fifty percent of farmers profiled have been assisted to boost their productions.

Irimiya Musa said they champion the course of assisting farmers from production, processing to marketing.

The SPC added they also provide seedlings, agrochemicals, fertilizer and herbicides (input support) for farmers and as will linked them to offtakers who will purchase their farm produce.

Musa said they, the participating eight local government areas are Ardo kola, Gassol,Bali, Jalingo, Wukari,Donga,Karim lamido and Takum.
He applauded the  Governor of the State  Dr Agbu Kefas for providing the enabling atmosphere for the smooth running of the program in the state.

According to the SPC,  recently they partnered with Taraba State Mass Education Board to train thirty Person Living with Disability for six months on Literacy skills to enable them contribute to the Economic growth of the state.

Musa added that the partnership has equally led to establishment of more Adult education centers in the state to give farmers access to quality Education to help them promote their farming business.

The SPC further appreciated Governor Agbu Kefas for appointing Professor Nicholas Oliver Namessan as the commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security describing it as a good decision.

He said Professor Nicholas who is a professional is doing well in promoting Agricultural sector in the state within his shortest time in office.
