More than 20 public and private secondary schools across Taraba State on Thursday participated in the maiden edition of the Taraba Peace Festival, an initiative aimed at promoting peace, unity, and tolerance among young people.

They noted that Taraba State, with its more than 80 ethnic groups and diverse religious and cultural backgrounds, remains a symbol of Nigeria's diversity, making peacebuilding a critical priority for sustainable development.
According to the organizers, the initiative was inspired by the peace-building efforts of the Governor of Taraba State, , and seeks to strengthen social cohesion among youths through education and dialogue.
Participants were encouraged to embrace love, tolerance, unity, and mutual respect as tools for nation-building while rejecting actions capable of threatening peace and stability.
A key message that resonated throughout the festival was the call on young people to reject violence, kidnapping, and hate speech and instead become ambassadors of peace within their schools and communities.
The organizers expressed optimism that the lessons learned during the festival would help nurture a new generation of peace advocates committed to fostering harmony in Taraba State and Nigeria at large.
They also commended individuals and organizations that contributed to the success of the event, stressing that collective efforts remain essential in building a peaceful and prosperous society.
