The political tempo in Taraba State gathered fresh momentum as women across party lines converged in Jalingo to formally flag off the “One Million Women Vote for Tinubu/Kefas 2027” campaign, signaling what organizers described as a grassroots-driven push for continuity and inclusive governance.
The launch took place during the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration organized by the Office of the Wife of the Governor through the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The event, marked by colorful cultural displays and musical performances, blended advocacy for women’s empowerment with political mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Wife of the Governor, Agyin Agbu Kefas, the Chairman of the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Christiana Taninga Binga, described the International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” as a call to action for women across the state.
She emphasized that investing in women translates into stronger families, resilient communities, and sustainable development. According to her, women must not only support progressive policies but also mentor younger generations, challenge injustice, and take active roles in governance.
The governor’s wife urged women to sustain their backing for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President and the Moving Forward Agenda of Governor . She noted that both agendas prioritize economic empowerment, healthcare delivery, quality education, security, and inclusive leadership.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mary Sinjen, described the campaign as a reflection of Taraba women’s commitment to policies that protect vulnerable groups and expand opportunities for women and children. She called on women to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the forthcoming elections to safeguard their collective interests.
In a rare show of bipartisan solidarity, the APC Women Leader, Margaret Mchiviga, and the PDP Women Leader, Lois Emmanuel, commended the governor for creating space for women’s participation in governance. They urged women to translate their numerical strength into electoral influence and sustained civic engagement.
Civil society and faith-based organizations also lent their voices to the cause. The Taraba State chapters of the (NAWOJ), , the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, and the (FOMWAN) stressed that empowering women remains central to societal growth. They called for equal representation of women in leadership and decision-making at all levels.
Beyond the speeches and political messaging, the event celebrated the vibrancy of Taraba’s women. Cultural troupes from across the state thrilled the audience with traditional performances, underscoring the unity and diversity of the women’s movement.
As drums echoed through the venue and banners bearing the 2027 message fluttered in the air, the gathering projected more than a campaign slogan. It signaled a calculated effort to consolidate women as a decisive voting bloc — one determined not only to celebrate its achievements but also to shape the political future of Taraba and the nation.
