EDUCATION:Commissioner Dismisses Failure Claims, Highlights Reforms in Taraba Tertiary Institutions.

The Taraba State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, , has dismissed reports alleging that he has failed in the discharge of his duties, describing the claims as “mischievous and unfounded.”
Speaking during an interview in , the commissioner said the allegations were aimed at undermining the progress recorded in the state’s tertiary education sector since he assumed office.
Dio Jen maintained that his tenure has been marked by significant reforms, including the enactment of modern laws that have strengthened the administration and academic standards of tertiary institutions across the state. According to him, these legislative measures passed by the have repositioned institutions for improved performance and accreditation success.
He cited the case of , noting that prior to the reforms, the institution had never secured accreditation for more than four courses. “Today, the polytechnic boasts over twenty accredited courses, a milestone achieved through deliberate policy reforms and government support,” he said.
The commissioner further disclosed that Governor has approved the replacement of staff at the polytechnic, a move facilitated by the ministry to boost staff morale and enhance the quality of learning in the institution.
Addressing the recent strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at , Dio Jen revealed that he held several meetings with university authorities to discuss their demands. He explained that the ASUU leadership also met directly with the governor, who, as the state’s chief executive, has the final authority on such matters.
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining dialogue and ensuring lasting solutions to challenges facing tertiary education in Taraba State.
