In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Christian Religion Matters, Very Rev. Fr. Sunday Patrick Muke, the governor described the incident as distressing and unfortunate.
Kefas extended his heartfelt solidarity to the Bishop, priests, consecrated persons and lay faithful of the Wukari Diocese, as well as the wider Christian community affected by the incident.
He expressed gratitude to God that no lives were lost in the fire and commended those who made swift efforts to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.
The governor also assured the Diocese of the full support of the Taraba State Government during this challenging period, pledging that the state would stand with the church as it navigates the aftermath of the incident.
Kefas called on residents across the state to remain calm and united, urging them to continue praying for peace, unity and divine protection over all places of worship.
The fire outbreak occurred on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the cathedral in Wukari, though details regarding the cause of the incident were yet to be officially disclosed at the time of filing this report.
