The Chairperson of Stand Up For Women Society, Mrs Rahab John Machoko, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), Jalingo Diocese, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to women development and service to the Church.

The award was presented during the organisation’s 2026 Annual Convention held at Jauro Yinu, where Mrs Machoko was celebrated alongside other distinguished recipients for their unwavering support to the CWO and commitment to humanitarian service.

Presenting the award, the Diocesan President of CWO, Mrs Eglah Ibrahim, commended the awardees for their dedication to God and humanity, noting that their impact continues to inspire others within and beyond the Church community.

She explained that the recognition was aimed at encouraging beneficiaries to sustain their good works, particularly in strengthening family values and contributing to Church growth.

“The recognition is to encourage them in the work they have been doing in their homes and within the Catholic Church. We believe this honour will boost their morale to do even more,” she stated.

Mrs Ibrahim further highlighted that the annual convention serves as a platform to deepen the spiritual lives of members while addressing contemporary societal issues. She noted that this year’s theme, “Women: Custodians of Mother Earth,” underscores the critical role of women as nation builders and moral anchors in society.

She urged participants to actively engage in the sessions and apply the lessons learnt toward building a more peaceful and responsible society.

In her response, Mrs Machoko, who also serves as Gender Officer with the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Programme in Taraba State, expressed gratitude to the CWO leadership for the honour, describing it as both humbling and motivating.

According to her, the award would spur her to intensify efforts in advancing the cause of women and supporting the mission of the Church.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. This recognition will further energise me to do more for the growth of the Church and humanity,” she said.

She also lauded the leadership of the CWO for their commitment to women empowerment and prayed for divine guidance in their continued service.

Speaking on girl-child education, Mrs Machoko commended the free education policy of Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, describing it as a bold step toward inclusive development. She, however, called for improved investment in learning infrastructure, especially in rural communities, to ensure access to quality education.

She emphasised that educating a woman has a multiplier effect on society, noting that women play a pivotal role in nurturing, mentoring, and shaping future generations.

The event drew women from across the diocese and featured spiritual activities, lectures, and community engagement sessions aimed at reinforcing the role of women in faith, family, and societal development.
