Headquarters 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has intensified its peace-restoration efforts in Southern Taraba with the launch of a new special operation, Operation Zafin Wuta.
The initiative, which commenced on 22 November 2025, is aimed at reinforcing both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to tackle insecurity across Takum and Wukari Local Government Areas.
Lieutenant UMAR MUHAMMAD
Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 6 Brigade Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists.
As part of activities marking the take-off of the operation, the Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, led a high-level delegation on a humanitarian and strategic engagement tour.
He was accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Echuseh Audu, and the Chairman of Takum LGA, Mr. Benjamin Bako.
The team visited Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and temporary shelters located at 93 Battalion Mammy Market, Kufai-Amadu, and Chanchanji in Takum LGA, where palliatives and essential relief items were distributed. Addressing the displaced residents, Brig Gen Uwa expressed sympathy over the criminal attacks that forced them out of their communities.
He assured them of the Nigerian Army’s renewed commitment to rooting out criminal elements and restoring lasting security to affected areas.
He appealed to community members to support ongoing operations by providing credible and timely intelligence that would aid security agencies in their mission.
Community representatives who spoke during the visit commended the Nigerian Army, SEMA and the Taraba State Government for the intervention, describing the gesture as a relief to the hardships faced by displaced families. They also called for sustained security operations to enable their eventual return home.
The Brigade Commander later led troops on a Show of Force across Takum town, Kufai-Amadu, Chanchanji and parts of Wukari LGA to reassure residents of the Army’s presence and readiness to act against threats.
Brig Gen Uwa also paid a courtesy visit to the Aku Uka of Wukari, His Royal Majesty Manu Ishaku Ada Ali, where he briefed the monarch on the multidimensional approach adopted under Operation Zafin Wuta.
He sought the royal father’s blessings and support in mobilising grassroots cooperation and intelligence for the success of the operation.
In his remarks, the Aku Uka commended the initiative, noting that Operation Zafin Wuta would go a long way in stabilising Wukari and neighbouring communities. He pledged the full support of the traditional institution toward ensuring peace and aiding military operations.
The launch of Operation Zafin Wuta and the extensive activities carried out across Takum and Wukari underscore the Nigerian Army’s sustained commitment to securing communities, supporting vulnerable populations and restoring peace in Taraba State.
According to the Army, the operation continues to record steady gains through its blend of humanitarian outreach and strategic security action.
