TRAINING: Kefas Flags Off Intensive Capacity Training for Taraba Top Civil Servants, LG Officials.

By our Correspondent, February 5,2026.
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has declared open a five-day capacity-building workshop for Permanent Secretaries, Secretaries and Directors in the state civil service, alongside an orientation programme for newly elected Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and senior council officials.

The workshop, held at the Banquet Hall of TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, is part of the administration’s drive to overhaul the state’s public service structure and improve governance outcomes.

Declaring the training open, Governor Kefas said his government is implementing far-reaching reforms to reposition the civil service for efficiency and professionalism, noting that his administration met a system built on a weak foundation.

He stressed that the future development of Taraba State depends largely on a responsive and result-driven civil service, adding that institutional strengthening, improved service delivery and digital transformation have remained top priorities since he assumed office.

The Governor urged participants to take full advantage of the workshop to align the state’s civil service with global best practices. He emphasized that competence, transparency and the deployment of modern technology are critical to achieving effective governance.

Governor Kefas also outlined ongoing and planned interventions across key sectors including education, agriculture, energy, security and investment, while assigning specific rural development targets to local government chairmen.

In a welcome address, the Head of the Taraba State Civil Service, Dr Ahmed Hamidu Kara, said the training would enhance capacity and provide a clearer operational direction for public servants across the state.

A lead paper was presented by the Director of Training in the Office of the Head of Service, Dr Kenneth Tijo Mingeh, on the theme: “An Overview of Strategic Leadership Management in the Public Sector: Nigeria and Taraba State in Focus.”

Delivering a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Godfrey Dame, commended the Governor for initiating the workshop and orientation programme for the newly elected council leadership.

The event also featured cultural performances by the Taraba State cultural troupe.

The workshop is themed: “Rebuilding the Taraba State Civil Service for Optimum Performance: Towards Achieving Effective and Efficient Service Delivery Using ICT.”

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
