TARABA: Illegal Land Sales Will Be Revoked — Taraba Geographic Information Service DG Issues Strong Warning.
The Director General of the Taraba Geographic Information Service (TAGIS), Surveyor Mark Maaku Joshua PhD has warned that all illegally acquired or sold government lands across the state will be revoked.
Speaking in an interview with reporters in Jalingo, the TAGIS boss said only land allocations duly approved by the state governor are recognized as valid, stressing that any parcel of government land sold, transferred, or confiscated by individuals without authorization will be nullified.
He said the warning follows growing reports that some government-owned lands have been unlawfully sold to private individuals and organizations.
According to him, any buyer who acquires government property without clearance from TAGIS does so at their own risk, as such transactions are considered illegal and subject to revocation.
Surveyor Joshua explained that all government lands have already been captured in the agency’s database, making it easier to identify encroached or fraudulently transferred plots.
He cautioned residents to always verify land status and obtain proper approval from TAGIS before making any purchase to avoid financial loss.
The Director General noted that recent public notices issued against illegal sale and confiscation of government lands were necessary to curb further encroachment.
He also commended Governor Agbu Kefas for what he described as strong institutional support, which he said has enhanced the agency’s performance.
On reported misspellings of Taraba community names online, he added that steps are underway to correct them in due course.
