The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), in collaboration with the Taraba State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, has reunited 10 trafficked children with their biological parents in Jalingo.
The children were intercepted on Jan. 31, 2026, at Kurmi Park, Jalingo, while being transported by a suspected trafficker to Baissa, the headquarters of Kurmi Local Government Area.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Mr. Bako Amos, Commander of NAPTIP, Taraba Command.
According to the statement, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs. Mary Sinjen, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Eric Juyo, visited the NAPTIP Command on Feb. 2, 2026, to receive the victims and interact with them.
The interaction, the statement said, was aimed at identifying the root causes of the illegal movement of minors from their places of origin to unknown destinations, as well as analysing the challenges that expose children to trafficking.
The commissioner noted that the findings would inform policy development and implementation to curb human trafficking and the irregular movement of children, women, and girls in the state.
The statement further highlighted the dangers associated with irregular migration, often carried out without the consent of parents or through deception with promises of better opportunities, only to expose victims to exploitation for financial gain.
NAPTIP and the ministry cautioned parents and guardians against handing over their children to unscrupulous traffickers under the guise of easing economic hardship, warning that such actions endanger the lives and future of vulnerable children.
The agency reiterated its commitment to the protection, care, and rehabilitation of trafficking victims, assuring that efforts were underway to help them overcome the traumatic experiences associated with the crime.
It also vowed that trafficking would not be treated as business as usual in Taraba State, stressing that anyone found culpable of committing or aiding the crime would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 10 children were counselled before being reunited with their families following their interaction with the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development.
NAN recalls that NAPTIP had earlier intercepted a woman conveying the minors at Kurmi Park in Jalingo. (NAN)
