Roads: FG Commissions Rehabilitated Jalingo–Wukari Corridor, Boosts Taraba Connectivity.

The Federal Government has commissioned the rehabilitated Jalingo–Mutum Biyu–Tella–Wukari road, marking a major step toward improving transportation and economic activities across Taraba State and neighboring regions.

The project was officially commissioned at Sibre in Ardo Kola Local Government Area on behalf of the Minister of Works, , by the Chairman of the Taraba State Council, Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen.

Speaking at the event, the Minister said the rehabilitation was designed to provide a safe and motorable route for residents and road users across the state. He noted that the road serves as a strategic corridor linking Taraba with other parts of the country and would significantly ease the movement of goods and people.

He stressed that the administration of places high priority on infrastructure development as a foundation for economic growth and improved living standards. According to him, ongoing federal road projects are targeted at delivering direct benefits to citizens and strengthening inter-state connectivity.

Also speaking, the Taraba State Comptroller of the , Engineer Ibrahim Usman, said several critical sections of federal roads in the state have undergone phased rehabilitation to reduce transportation difficulties faced by commuters.

He explained that the government approved maintenance works on key failed portions of the corridor, including the commissioned section, to restore durability and safety. Usman disclosed that the completed stretch involved reconstruction of failed segments, installation of culverts, and construction of line drains to control erosion and flooding.

“I am delighted to witness the commissioning of the first section of the Jalingo–Mutum Biyu–Tella–Wukari road, which links Taraba to other states of the federation. The contractor has fully completed the assignment, including pavement restoration and drainage works,” he said.

The comptroller added that other major projects currently in progress in the state include the Gembu–Mbamnga–Lip road and the rehabilitation of the Bali–Serti road corridor.

Earlier, Director of Media and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Works, Mohammed Ahmed Abdullahi, said the inspection and commissioning formed part of a nationwide monitoring tour of federal road projects. He explained that the initiative aims to address over two thousand inherited but abandoned road contracts across the country, many of which stalled due to funding constraints.

According to him, more than 260 road projects are presently ongoing nationwide, with priority given to economically vital routes to ease travel challenges and enhance national integration. He added that feedback from traditional authorities along the Gembu–Mbamnga–Lip axis indicates that the project has fulfilled long-standing federal commitments to the area and reinforced its strategic importance within Nigeria.
