Kefas’ APC Move Will Fast-Track Taraba’s Development — Solomon Elisha.

By our Political Correspondent, February 4,2026.

A former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Taraba State, Hon. Solomon Elisha, has called on Tarabans to rally behind Governor Agbu Kefas following his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a strategic step that would unlock greater development for the state.

Elisha, an APC chieftain in Kurmi Local Government Area, said the governor’s defection to the ruling party at the centre was “the right decision taken at the right time,” noting that political alignment with the Federal Government would translate into increased access to infrastructure and socio-economic opportunities for Taraba.

According to him, stakeholders across Kurmi and beyond must close ranks and support the governor to enable him deliver on his development agenda.
“The decision of His Excellency, Governor Agbu Kefas, to join the APC is about development. By aligning Taraba with the government at the centre, it will attract more projects and opportunities to our state. As stakeholders in Kurmi, we must encourage and back him to achieve his goals,” Elisha said.

Speaking on the ongoing APC electronic registration exercise, Elisha expressed concern over the low turnout recorded so far in Kurmi Local Government Area but expressed optimism that the extension approved by the party leadership would improve participation.

He said renewed mobilisation, sensitisation and grassroots engagement were already underway to ensure that eligible party supporters take advantage of the extended window.
“The results from Kurmi so far are discouraging, but the extension of the e-registration has given us an opportunity to do more. We are intensifying awareness and mobilisation, and by the time the extension elapses, Kurmi will record a much better outcome,” he assured.

Elisha added that similar efforts were being deployed to encourage youths who have attained voting age to register for their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), stressing that political participation remains key to democratic governance.
“At our level as stakeholders, our responsibility is to sensitise those eligible to register for PVCs so they can exercise their franchise during elections, and we are already doing that,” he said.

On his 2027 political ambition, the former commissioner confirmed his intention to contest for the Kurmi Constituency seat in the Taraba State House of Assembly, saying the call to serve was coming directly from his people.

“My people have called on me to represent them, and I have answered that call. With the experience we have gathered in government, we believe we can represent Kurmi better and take the constituency to greater heights,” Elisha stated.
He acknowledged the efforts of past representatives but said his aspiration was driven by a desire to improve on existing gains.

If elected, Elisha pledged to prioritise human development, education and peaceful coexistence, describing them as critical pillars for sustainable development in Kurmi and Taraba State at large.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Reports of an unusual influx of Fulani and Hausa migrants fleeing violence in Northern Nigeria have unsettled the peace of this agrarian enclave. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
