Hon. Abner Shittu Rallies Support for Bible Society of Nigeria at Diamond Jubilee Fundraiser.

By Jako Keke, February 14, 2026.
Member representing Karim I Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Abner Shittu, has called on Christians and philanthropic organizations to strengthen their support for the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) to enhance its evangelical and humanitarian outreach across the state.

Shittu made the appeal while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the society, where he served as Vice Chairman of the occasion. The anniversary event, held in Taraba State, brought together political leaders, clergy, business figures, and members of the Christian community to celebrate six decades of Bible translation, production, and distribution.

The lawmaker described the Taraba State chapter of BSN as “vibrant and impactful,” noting that its consistent efforts in making scriptures accessible in various languages have contributed significantly to moral and spiritual development in communities.

He stressed that faith-based organizations such as BSN require sustained financial and moral backing to expand their reach, especially in rural and underserved areas. According to him, increased support would enable the society to intensify Bible distribution, literacy support programs, and faith-building initiatives.

Shittu congratulated the organization on attaining its diamond jubilee and urged religious and community leaders not to relent in promoting the gospel through active partnership with scripture-focused institutions.

He particularly commended the state leadership of the society under Hon. Dr. Filister Irarimam Musa for successfully organizing the anniversary fundraiser aimed at constructing a proposed guest inn facility. He described the project as a strategic investment that would support visiting missionaries, teachers, and partner organizations.

“No contribution is too small or too large when it comes to advancing the work of God,” the legislator said. “I am appealing especially to business owners and individuals with the capacity to support the Bible Society of Nigeria to do so generously, so the message of God can reach more people.”

He also expressed appreciation to the BSN leadership for the honor of appointing him as Vice Chairman of the anniversary committee, noting that the event drew wide participation from political office holders, Christian leaders, and other stakeholders across the state.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Reports of an unusual influx of Fulani and Hausa migrants fleeing violence in Northern Nigeria have unsettled the peace of this agrarian enclave. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
