The Special Adviser to the Governor of Taraba State on Christian Religion Matters, Very Rev. Fr. Sunday Patrick Muke, has called on Christians to remain steadfast in faith and resist temptation as they embark on the Lenten season.
In a message to mark the First Sunday of Lent on February 22, 2026, Fr. Muke reflected on the Gospel of Gospel of Matthew 4:1–11, which recounts the forty days Jesus Christ spent in the wilderness where He fasted and was tempted by the devil.
According to the cleric, the passage serves as a powerful reminder that temptation is part of the human experience, noting that even Jesus faced trials but triumphed through obedience and steadfast reliance on the Word of God.
“In His weakness, He showed strength, remained obedient, and upheld the Word of God,” he stated, emphasizing that Christ’s victory over temptation demonstrates the importance of grounding one’s life in Scripture.
Fr. Muke described the Lenten period as a “spiritual wilderness” that offers Christians an opportunity for prayer, fasting, and renewal. He urged the faithful to reject anything that draws them away from God’s will and instead draw strength from Christ’s example.
“As we journey through these forty days, may we grow in prayer and fasting, show love to others, and prepare our hearts for true renewal at Easter,” he said.
He prayef for God’s blessings upon all Christians as they undertake the solemn journey toward Easter.
