EDUCATION: Kwararafa University Matriculates 503 Students Across 15 Degree Programmes.

By Abdul Adams, February 15,2026.

No fewer than 503 fresh students have been formally admitted into 15 accredited undergraduate programmes at Kwararafa University, Wukari during its 21st matriculation ceremony held at the institution’s main campus in Hyuku, Wukari.
The colourful event brought together members of the university management, academic staff, parents and well-wishers who witnessed the formal induction of the new students into the academic community.
Established in 2005 as the first university in Taraba State and widely recognised as a community-promoted institution in sub-Saharan Africa, the university has continued to expand its academic offerings and reputation in private tertiary education within Nigeria’s North-East region.

The institution has produced graduates across several fields who are making contributions in public and private sectors, particularly in areas driven by digital skills and technological innovation.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shishi Zhema, congratulated the new students on their successful admission and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to academic excellence and student-focused learning.
He noted that the institution remains committed to equipping learners with the knowledge and character needed to excel professionally and become worthy ambassadors of the university.

Prof Zhema urged the students to be law-abiding, disciplined and respectful both within and outside the campus, warning against abuse of freedom and involvement in social vices. According to him, diligence, self-control and integrity are essential virtues that will distinguish them during their academic journey and beyond graduation.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the university plans to expand its academic scope in October 2026 with the admission of students into new programmes under a recently created College of Arts and Humanities.

The proposed departments include English and Literary Studies—with options in Language, Literature and Film Studies—and History and Diplomatic Studies. The ceremony featured the formal oath-taking by the matriculating students, while parents and guardians commended the university for providing a conducive learning environment.

Earlier, during an orientation session, the Dean of Students’ Affairs Dr Ifeoma Catherine Onwugbufor advised the new intakes to remain focused and disciplined to achieve academic success.

Kurmi on the Brink: Why Silence Now Could Spell Disaster

By The Nigerian Newspointer Editorial Board In the quiet hills and lush forests of Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, an uneasy wind is blowing. Migration in itself is not new—men and women have always moved in search of safety, trade, and survival. But what is happening in Kurmi today bears markers that Nigeria has, sadly, seen before. And if urgent steps are not taken, the consequences could be dire. A Pattern Too Familiar From Plateau to Benue, from Southern Kaduna to Zamfara, Nigeria’s troubled history is littered with stories of migration that started innocently but later spiraled into violent conflicts. Farmers and herders once lived in uneasy but manageable coexistence until land sales, unchecked settlements, and political silence turned simple disputes into ethnic conflagrations. The echoes of those past crises are now knock...
