CRIME: Police Arrest Six Youths in Lamurde, Recover Charms

The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced investigation into six youths arrested during a joint security operation following a midnight gunshot incident in Lamurde Local Government Area.

According to a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the suspects were apprehended during intensified patrol operations aimed at preventing escalation of the lingering Chobo/Bachama communal tension.

The incident occurred around midnight between February 15 and 16, 2025, when gunshots were reportedly heard behind Cottage Hospital in Kunduli, Tingno, Lamurde LGA. Security operatives on patrol reportedly encountered a group of young men in the area who allegedly verbally abused officers and made provocative remarks, prompting their immediate arrest.

During the operation, security personnel also recovered incriminating items, including charms and other materials suspected to be linked to the disturbance.

The six suspects — Abiola Ayuba (27), Mark Yakubu (22), Yamauyinzin Elias (18), Gabriel Danladi (22), Yunarwe Barnabas (21), and Japheth Agai (20) — have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola for further investigation.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the suspects’ involvement in the gunshot incident and any possible connection to the communal unrest in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, called on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to sustain peace in Lamurde and its environs.

The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining security across the state and warned that any attempt to disrupt public order would be met with decisive action.
