The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called for stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to enhance the fight against corruption in Benue and Taraba states.
The Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Assistant Commander Effa Imoh Ikom, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the NUJ, Taraba State Council.
He underscored the critical role of the media in shaping society and holding leaders accountable, noting that journalists remain indispensable partners in promoting transparency and good governance.
Ikom commended journalists for their resilience in keeping citizens informed about developments across the country and urged them to sustain their commitment to responsible reporting.
The EFCC chief expressed concern over rising cases of corruption, which he said have continued to undermine key sectors of governance and deny citizens access to essential services.
According to him, media reportage has, over the years, helped expose financial crimes and brought to light the Commission’s efforts in tackling misappropriation of public funds and other corrupt practices.
In his response, Chairman of the NUJ Taraba State Council, Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen, assured the Commission of the union’s readiness to work in synergy with the EFCC to promote accountability and sanitise the nation’s system.
Comrade Jen praised the EFCC for its sustained efforts in combating corruption, describing the agency’s work as vital to restoring Nigeria’s integrity.
He also lauded the cordial working relationship between journalists and security agencies in the state and pledged to strengthen the partnership in the collective interest of good governance.
