COURTESY: DG NYSC Applauds 6 Brigade for Sustained Security Support in Taraba.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseyi Nafiu, has commended the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke for its sustained security support to the scheme’s activities in Taraba State.

The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the NYSC Director-General to the Commander of 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, at the Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo on February 20, 2026.
 Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement issued to Journalists.

Brigadier General Nafiu congratulated the Brigade Commander on his recent appointment and expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and his entourage. He thanked the Brigade for its continued support to the NYSC over the years, noting that the discipline and dedication of its officers and soldiers have contributed significantly to grooming well-disciplined and exemplary corps members in the state.

“I must commend and congratulate your officers for the fantastic job the Brigade has been doing, which has brought positive changes to the security dynamics in Taraba State under your leadership,” the DG stated.

He described Brigadier General Akaliro as a seasoned and experienced senior officer, expressing confidence that his leadership would further enhance the Brigade’s operational effectiveness.

 The DG added that the peaceful and enabling environment enjoyed by corps members in Taraba is a testament to the purposeful leadership of the Brigade Commander and the commitment of his personnel.

In his response, Brigadier General Akaliro thanked the NYSC Director-General for the recognition and described it as an honour to host him at the Brigade Headquarters. He commended Brigadier General Nafiu as a disciplined officer whose pursuit of excellence has distinguished his military career, expressing confidence that the NYSC is in capable hands under his leadership.

“The NYSC remains a veritable tool which, as a nation, we must continue to uphold. It provides the necessary exposure for our youths to understand the cultural heritage and diversity of our country,” he said.

The Brigade Commander also described NYSC officials in Taraba State as dedicated and hardworking, while appealing to the Director-General to consider the renovation of the NYSC Secretariat in the state.

Highlights of the visit included the inspection of a quarter guard, signing of the visitors’ book by the DG, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.
