Academic Staff Union of Universities Resumes Indefinite Strike at Taraba State University Over Unmet Agreements.
By Jako Keke, February 18, 2026.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at , Taraba State University chapter, has resumed its previously suspended total, comprehensive and indefinite strike, citing the Taraba State Government’s failure to implement agreements reached with the union.
In a press release dated February 18, 2026, the union branch at said the decision followed what it described as the government’s inability to take “concrete and verifiable steps” toward fulfilling obligations contained in an agreement signed on January 17, 2025.
The statement said the strike had earlier been suspended in good faith to give the government time to address pending issues affecting staff welfare and the smooth running of the university. However, after a review of the situation, the ASUU-TSU Congress resolved to resume the industrial action, saying the longstanding concerns remain unattended.
According to the union, the key issues that led to the resumption of the strike include the absence of a functional pension scheme for the university, non-payment of backlog of outstanding salaries owed to its members, failure to settle accumulated Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), and non-implementation of the newly negotiated ASUU–FGN agreement of 2025.
ASUU-TSU noted that the unresolved matters have persisted for an extended period and have significantly affected staff morale, welfare, and the overall functioning of the institution.
The union described the renewed strike as a last resort after sustained dialogue efforts failed to yield results, while stressing that it remains open to constructive engagement with the government to resolve the dispute.
The press release was signed by the ASUU-TSU Chairperson, Dr. Garba Mbave Joshua, on behalf of the branch congress.
